Clove and Cinnamon Cake

Ingredients
  

  • For The Cake
  • 3 Cups All-Purpose Flour Sifted
  • ½ Tsp Salt
  • 4 Tsp Baking Powder
  • ½ Tsp Ground Cloves
  • 1 ` Tsp Ceylon Cinnamon Powder
  • 1 Cup Shortening
  • Cups Sugar
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • Cups Milk
  • For The Spiced Butter Frosting
  • Cups Unsalted Butter
  • 5 Cups Icing Sugar
  • 1 Tsp Ceylon Cinnamon Powder
  • 1 Tsp Nutmeg Powder

Method
 

  1. For The Cake
  2. Preheat the oven to 375°F / 190°C / Gas mark 5
  3. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt
  4. Mix the ground cloves, cinnamon powder and the shortening
  5. Add sugar and beat gradually
  6. Beat in the eggs one at a time
  7. Add milk and flour
  8. Beat for about 25 seconds
  9. Transfer it into a greased tray
  10. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean
  11. Cool it for about 10 minutes and turn out onto a wire rack.
  12. Spiced Buttercream Frosting
  13. Beat the butter
  14. Continue beating by adding the icing sugar little by little
  15. Add the cinnamon powder and nutmeg powder
  16. Beat on low speed
  17. Continue to beat until the frosting is smooth and creamy
  18. Now apply the frosting on the cake.
